ACTING

Can I apply?
If you are serious about trying to have a career as an actor but are worried about the process and cost of applying to drama school then Open Door is for you.

We can give you the support you need to approach your audition with confidence, knowing that you have benefited from the advice and training of industry professionals. Thirty-six successful candidates will also have their audition fees paid at seven of the top UK drama schools.

In order to apply for Open Door, you will need to:

  • Be based in London, Essex, Sheffield, Rotherham or East Midlands

  • Have an annual family household income of £30,000 or less

  • Be aged 18-26 

  • Not currently hold a degree

  • Have a commitment to acting as a career goal

  • Not studying on a full time acting foundation course during the 2019-2020 academic year

  • Intend to apply for a BA (hons) acting for the 2020 academic year

  • U.K citizen or have lived in the U.K long enough to be eligible for U.K student finance.

We will need to check the financial records of the selected participants, so please do not apply if you do not meet all the criteria above. This is a project aimed at young people who could not otherwise afford to audition for drama school.


When are the auditions?

Auditions will be held during weekends between 22nd September to the 20th October, although you only need to be available in the morning or afternoon on one of these dates.

Auditions will be held in the following cities with application deadlines as follows;

London (and Essex) - 5pm October 17th

Leicester - 5pm September 26th

Nottingham - 5pm October 17th

Derby - 5pm October 3rd

Northampton - 5pm October 9th

Sheffield (Rotherham) - 5pm October 9th

*If you are unable to get to us we may be able to help with travel expenses.

Ie. If you live in Lincoln and can’t get to Nottingham please do let us know*

What can I expect on the day?

You will be invited to come along for a morning or afternoon session on one of the above dates.

The day will begin with an informal warm up workshop with two of our tutors to hopefully get you nice and relaxed so that you can perform your best. Remember, we’re here to help to succeed and so we’ll do all we can to make this an enjoyable experience for you.

You’ll then get the chance to perform a monologue you would have prepared in front of two panelists who you’ll already have met during the course of the day. This individual audition should take around 10 minutes.

We will then recall a number of applicants in London & Essex between the 27th of October - 29th of October 2018, and East Midlands, Sheffield & Rotherham applicants on the 3rd of November.

All applicants must be available to audition on at least one of these dates within their region from 10:00 - 5.30pm.

Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 8th of November

If successful applicants must also be available for there first three day workshop;

London & Essex: November 23rd- 25th

East Midlands: November 22nd- 24th

Sheffield & Rotherham: November 22nd- 24th
